Speckfeld Castle
The Speckfeld castle ruin is the ruin of a hilltop castle on a wooded 420 m above sea level high conical hill, called "Schlossberg", near Iphofen northeast of the market town Markt Einersheim in the Lower Franconian district of Kitzingen in Bavaria.
Around 1250, the castle was built by the Counts of Speckfeld and then came into the possession of the Hohenlohe family, went to the Schenken von Limpurg in 1412, was destroyed in the Peasants' War and later rebuilt.
During the Thirty Years' War (1618 to 1648), the castle was plundered several times by Swedish troops and Imperial forces and, from 1693, after the owners had built a new castle in Markt Einersheim, was no longer inhabited.
In 1713, the castle went to the Counts of Rechtern-Limpurg-Speckfeld, began to decay, was demolished and used as a quarry. The castle site is now an archaeological monument.
Since 1991, the castle remains, owned by the Bavarian state, have been undergoing restoration.

Of the former castle complex, a 15-meter-high wall with an archway and three window openings, a side wall of the gate tower (a keep), remains of a castle cellar, small vault remains, the castle well, and the castle moat on three sides can still be recognized.
