Rosenegg Castle

Rosenegg Castle is the medieval ruin of a hilltop castle on a conical hill at 538 m above sea level on the northern slope of the Rosenegg directly behind the Berggasthof Burg Rosenegg, 1500 meters away from the municipality of Rielasingen-Worblingen in the district of Konstanz in Baden-Württemberg.

The castle was presumably built, possibly by the noble lords of Twiel, in the first half of the 13th century. It is mentioned in 1250 as being in the possession of the Lords of Rosenegg and passed into the possession of the Lords of Lupfen in 1335. After the castle was destroyed in the Swiss War in 1499, it was rebuilt and, after the extinction of the Lupfen family, passed to the Prince-Bishopric of Konstanz in 1610. In 1617, the castle was expanded into a secondary residence, and the residential buildings were raised.

In 1632, the castle was occupied by Württemberg troops and destroyed in 1639 by Hohentwieler troops. At the end of the 17th century, the castle ruin was demolished. Extensive remains of the walls of the former castle complex, which had a keep with a base area of 6.5 by 6.5 meters and a wall thickness of 1.5 meters, are still preserved.
