Považský Castle
The Považský Castle Ruin, also known as Waagburg, stands prominently above the landscape near Považská Bystrica in western Slovakia. This imposing hilltop castle ruin, once a strategically important point, now offers a fascinating glimpse into bygone eras and is a popular destination for history enthusiasts.
History+
The origins of the complex date back to the 12th century, when a first structure was built on this site. The actual Waagburg was then erected in the 14th century, specifically around 1316. A fire in 1543 led to extensive construction work, during which the lower areas of the outer bailey were rebuilt. The end of the castle came in 1698 when it was razed and rendered unusable by order of Leopold I.
