Pittersberg Castle
The castle ruin Pittersberg is the ruin of a rock castle on an isolated rock cone on the south side of the Gailberg Saddle in the northwest of the village of Laas in the municipality of Kötschach-Mauthen.
The castle was documented in 1252 as being in the possession of the County of Görz. With the Peace of Pusarnitz, the castle came into the possession of the Habsburgs, who enfeoffed the complex to caretakers. The castle was the seat of a regional court, but was already a ruin by the middle of the 17th century. Remains of a presumably Roman keep, parts of a curtain wall, and a circular cistern are still present.
