Pikeroi Castle

Pikeroi Castle

The remains of the castle can be visited

According to the few historical sources available for Pikeroi, the castle was built around the year 1180 as protection against Magyar incursions. In 1530, the castle is referred to as an "abandoned house". In between, there are only two mentions in 1388 and 1463 that refer to estates near Pikeroi, but not to the castle itself.

Once, an extensive outer bailey lay in front of the main castle, but it was completely destroyed in the 1960s by road construction and a small quarry. The road now runs right through the outer bailey, just a few meters past the main castle.
