Pichl Castle

A Reginhard de Püchilarn is already mentioned in 1123. Therefore, it is assumed that the tower already existed at that time. According to the information board, however, the tower is said to date only from the second half of the 14th century. In 1141, a Dionas von Pichleren is mentioned, and in 1287, a Heinrichs von Pichl. From 1370, the small castle served as a residence for the Waldegher knights, who probably acquired it around 1360. Since Hans II Waldecker died heirless in 1450, the tower passed to his cousin.

In 1466, Conrad von Tannhausen acquired the tower. In 1526, Lungau peasants presumably set fire to the castle in revenge for a failed campaign. However, it was again described as habitable in 1546. The Lungau industrialist Karl Jocher bought the tower in 1630. From 1700, the complex was left to decay. In 1846, the tower was described as a ruin, of which only high walls remained. In the 19th century, the granary and the cellar were integrated into the ruin.
