Obertrixen Castle

Obertrixen Castle was first mentioned in a document in 895 and was a gift from Emperor Arnulf to the husband of Hemma of Gurk.

From the Diocese of Gurk, the castle passed to the Sponheim dukes around 1100, among others, and became Habsburg in the 14th century. At the end of the 17th century, the castle fell to the Counts of Welz. In 1755, it was sold to the Counts of Christalnigg. Since 1952, the ruin has been in private ownership.

The castle has been in ruins since the 16th century. Today, one can still find rubble masonry of the residential tower and, to the south of it, of the residential building and the castle chapel.
