Neu-Waldeck Castle
Neu-Waldeck Castle is a ruined hilltop castle on a spur at 455 m above sea level near Tegernau in the municipality of Kleines Wiesental in the Lörrach district in Baden-Württemberg.
The owners of the small castle, mentioned in the 11th to 12th centuries, were the Lords of Waldeck. A former neck ditch separated the castle from the ridge. It was probably a tower castle that served to monitor trade routes. Of the castle complex, a small plateau and a hill, which indicates the existence of a keep, still exist.
In 1149, Emperor Conrad III confirmed to the Bishop of Basel, Ortlieb von Frohburg, the possession of the castles Alt- and Neu-Waldeck, which had come to him as a gift.
