Neu-Bolanden Castle

Neu-Bolanden Castle, also Neubolanden, is the ruin of a spur castle and today a cultural monument. It is located on the 276-meter-high "Schlossberg" immediately east of the municipality of Bolanden in the Donnersbergkreis district in Rhineland-Pfalz.

The castle was built in the 13th century by the imperial ministeriales of Bolanden and first mentioned between 1258 and 1262. In the 14th century, disputes over shares in the castle arose due to divisions. In the mid-14th century, Neu-Bolanden was enfeoffed to the Electoral Palatinate. Later it came into the possession of the Counts of Nassau-Weilburg and was expanded at the beginning of the 15th century. During the German Peasants' War in 1525, the castle was plundered and subsequently burned down. The ruin was rebuilt into a habitable castle. After a Spanish occupation during the Thirty Years' War, the castle was destroyed by the French in 1689 during the War of the Palatine Succession and demolished around 1822.
