The castle was first mentioned in a document in 1175. In 1584, it was already described as desolate.
Only minor wall remnants of the Liebenberg ruin remain. A mighty masonry pillar located on private property gives an idea of the castle's size. The ancestral seat of the Liebenbergs was of great importance when "Imperial Councillor" Johann Andreas was elected mayor of Vienna and earned great merit during the plague and the second Turkish siege in 1683. Liebenberg itself, as a parish, certainly had great importance at that time.
