In 1160, the Lords of Kundl, who inhabited Kundlburg, were mentioned for the first time. The castle was first documented in 1213. In 1213, Kundlburg became a fief of the Bavarian dukes (once owned by the Bishops of Regensburg). In 1230, it then passed as a fief to the Lords of Kundl (ministerials). Among the most important noble families of Kundl were the Kummersbruckers, who resided at Kundlburg in 1348, with which an independent court was associated. In 1405, the court was dissolved and annexed to the district court of Rattenberg. From this year on, the castle also lost its importance and began to decay.
Current State+
Today, only sparse remains of the once significant complex are preserved. These are owned by the municipality of Kundl.
