Kargegg Castle
The castle ruin Kargegg is located about ten kilometers northwest of Mainau Island on Lake Constance, 200 meters northeast of the hamlet of Kargegg, near the village of Langenrain in the district of Konstanz in Baden-Württemberg (Germany).
The spur castle stands on a 480 m above sea level high hill, which slopes steeply on two sides towards the Marienschlucht gorge, and on the third side towards Lake Constance. The fourth side is secured by an artificial gorge.
The beginnings of the castle can be traced back to the 13th century. On May 25, 1525, rebellious peasants burned down the castle. Since then, it has been uninhabited and has fallen into disrepair.
Today, only the south wall of the residential tower and some barely visible stone remains of the curtain wall in the west of the complex are still visible from the castle.
