Hermannsburg Castle

The Hermannsburg was a vanished hilltop castle on the so-called Singer- or Sommersteine north of the Elterlein district of Hermannsdorf in the Ore Mountains.

The complex was located about 1 kilometer north of Hermannsdorf at the eastern end of the Singer- or Sommersteine. Due to its location, it can be classified as a spur castle. It had a long-oval core work of about 12 by 22 meters. It was located on a natural rock cliff, which was artificially enlarged in the north by attached dry stone masonry. In front of the core work, a section ditch of about 8 to 10 meters wide and a maximum of 3 meters deep runs from north over the west side to southwest. The bottom of the ditch is on average about 5 to 6 meters lower than the core work plateau. In the east and south, individual rock cliffs are located in front of the plateau. In front of the ditch is the outer rampart, 4 to 5 meters wide and 1 to 2 meters high.

In 1980, the complex was placed under monument protection as an archaeological site.
