Heidenburg Castle
The Heidenburg is the remnant of a castle at Walpurgisstraße 20 in the historic center of the Mülhausen district of the state capital Stuttgart in Baden-Württemberg.
The local castle was presumably built in the 12th century by the Lords of Blankenstein.
In 1275, the Walpurgis Church (former castle chapel) was documented as the parish church of Mülhausen and destroyed in 1312 during the Imperial and Cities War by the Esslingers. In 1488, the nave was extended, and in 1567, the church became Protestant. Under the patronage of the Barons von Palm, the church tower was supplemented with an octagonal top in 1812. On April 15, 1943, the complex was destroyed in an air raid.
In 1973, the Walpurgishaus was built as an evangelical community center and is freely accessible as a castle and church area.
Only the retaining walls and a cellar remain of the original castle complex.
