Harrbach Castle
The castle ruin Alte Burg is the ruin of a small hilltop castle at 195 m above sea level on a meadow above the district of Harrbach in the town of Gemünden am Main in the Lower Franconian district of Main-Spessart in Bavaria.
Around 1100, the castle was built by the Lords of Harrburg, who were probably vassals of the Lords of Homburg (Gössenheim).
In 1469, the Diocese of Würzburg under Prince-Bishop Rudolf von Scherenberg acquired the village of Harrbach and the castle, which was destroyed in the German Peasants' War in 1525.
Around 1900, the castle was quarried for stone down to its foundations and today, after excavations, still shows foundation walls, the entrance area of the gatehouse, and the moat.
