History+
The construction of Gýmeš Castle took place in 1253. It was granted to the newly established Forgách family, who maintained ownership of the estate for centuries, until the beginning of the 20th century. Throughout its history, the castle was repeatedly a site of conflict: it was affected by Ottoman troops in 1576 and 1663. Gábor Bethlen's insurgent army also inflicted damage on the complex in 1618.
