Gölzau Castle

Gölzau Castle, also known as Gölzau Palace, is the ruin of a motte-and-bailey castle on an artificial hill in the Weißenandt-Gölzau district of the town of Südliches Anhalt in the Anhalt-Bitterfeld district, Saxony-Anhalt.

The original castle complex was presumably built around 1259 and shows no above-ground remains today. The castle complex, which probably consisted of wooden structures, was secured by a moat with upstream wooden palisades and accessible via a wooden bridge. Furthermore, the complex had an outer bailey, which contained the economic area, such as stables and granaries.

The remains of the newer palace buildings, a manor house, remains of walls, and a stair tower date from around 1880.
