The castle was probably built in the second half of the 13th century. Among others, it was owned by the Starkenberg family. The name "Gebhard" or "Gebrat" was demonstrably present in this family as early as the 12th century. The castle was presumably destroyed along with Alt Starkenberg in 1423.
Today, only sparse remains of the former castle are left. A wall 13 m long and 1.5 m thick with regular stone layering, as well as remnants of a tower.
