Friedburg Castle

Above the entrance to the Obersulzbachtal stood the Sulzau Fortress with its tower and defensive wall, today called Friedburg. The "Veste Sulzowe" with its tower and defensive wall was built around the year 1000. The first documented mention of the castle itself dates from 1292. A "Heinrich Graf von Solzowe", whose mention gives a hint of the castle, was already mentioned in 1050. In 1661, the castle was largely destroyed and not rebuilt.
The remains of the Friedburg lie opposite the Hieburg on a completely isolated steep cliff that is only connected to the Rabenkopf to the west by a narrow path. From the valley, the location seems rather harmless; only on site does one realize that the rock face to the north drops not only vertically but even overhangingly for a good 60 meters.
