Eckhardstein Castle

The castle was probably built in the second half of the 12th century. In a document by Reinpert von Hohenstein, dated around 1182, in which he confirms the donation of two farms "to Ekkehardestein" to the Göttweig Abbey, the name of the castle is mentioned for the first time. Although the castle is not explicitly reported, its existence at that time can be assumed.
Konrad Eisenbeutel sold the "Burgstall" Eckhardstein in 1314. Around 1380, Eckhardstein belonged to the Oberranna dominion as a princely fief. The castle is likely to have been abandoned after the second half of the 13th century.
