The Durrës Castle Ruin, known in Albanian as Kalaja e Durrësit, is a historical structure located in the city of Durrës, Albania. It represents the remnants of a once significant fortification, with origins dating back to late antiquity.

History+

The original castle complex was constructed in the 5th century under the reign of the Byzantine Emperor Anastasius I Dicorus. However, its existence was not eternal, as the castle was largely destroyed by a severe earthquake in 1273.

The ruin is situated in the Albanian city of Durrës, which belongs to the district and region of Durrës. Its location at sea level, at an elevation of approximately 9 meters above sea level, makes it a prominent feature in the cityscape.
