The Durrës Castle Ruin, known in Albanian as Kalaja e Durrësit, is a historical structure located in the city of Durrës, Albania. It represents the remnants of a once significant fortification, with origins dating back to late antiquity.
History+
The original castle complex was constructed in the 5th century under the reign of the Byzantine Emperor Anastasius I Dicorus. However, its existence was not eternal, as the castle was largely destroyed by a severe earthquake in 1273.
