Dubingiai Castle
The Dubingiai Castle Ruin, once a significant fortress, stands on an elevated position in Lithuania. Its remnants tell a story of a turbulent history, closely linked to the Lithuanian nobility and wartime conflicts.
History+
The origins of Dubingiai Castle date back to the early 15th century when Grand Duke Vytautas of Lithuania had it built between 1412 and 1413. In 1508, the complex passed into the possession of Jerzy Radziwiłł, who undertook extensive expansions. After Jerzy's death, his son Mikolaj "the Red" inherited the castle. A notable episode was the stay of Barbara Radziwiłł, who spent five months here after her marriage to Sigismund Augustus in 1547. During the Polish-Swedish Wars, the castle suffered looting and was seized by Polish troops, which initiated its gradual decline. In 1808, Michał Tyszkiewicz acquired the estate.
