The first mention of the castle "Aneschowe" occurred in 1209. It was owned by the ministeriales of Anschau, a family related to the Starhembergs. In 1296, it appears in the possession of Konrad von Sommerau. During the noble uprising at the end of the 13th century, the castle was destroyed and not rebuilt.
In 1371, Anschau with Traunstein was granted as a princely fief to the Lords of Dachsberg. In 1624, the "Burgstall Antschau" (castle site of Antschau) was reported once again.
