Old Castle Lipporn

The remains of the Castle can be visited

The Alte Burg or Alteburg, later also called Burg Löpern, is the ruin of a spur castle near the municipality of Lipporn in the Rhein-Lahn-Kreis in Rhineland-Palatinate.

The ruin of the castle is located near Lipporn at the end of a rugged 335 m above sea level high mountain spur above the Werkerbach valley in the Nastätten district, about 700 m away from the Lipporn Schanze.

The Alte Burg (Alteburg) was probably the ancestral seat of the ancestors of the Counts of Nassau in the 11th century and served to secure trade routes. Only small remains of a curtain wall and a rectangular keep are still visible from the former castle complex.
