Alt-Urach Castle
Alt-Urach Castle is a ruined castle in Lenzkirch in the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district (Baden-Württemberg) in the Black Forest.
The castle complex was built in the 13th century by the noble Lords of Urach. It was the center of the Lenzkirch lordship in the 14th and 15th centuries and owned by the Lords of Blumegg. In 1491, it was sold to the Counts of Fürstenberg, but was already referred to as a "Burgstall", meaning uninhabitable, at that time. Since 1972, it has been owned by the municipality of Lenzkirch.
Layout+
A house extension was added to the original castle with its square residential tower and curtain wall around 1404. The masonry was renovated in 1995/96 by the Schwarzwaldverein Lenzkirch.
