Alt-Hüttenstein Castle

The castle was built in the middle of the 13th century above the Scharflingerhöhe, which even then formed the border between Salzburg and Upper Austria. The area around Mondsee came from the Diocese of Regensburg to Salzburg in 1286, and the castle was probably built at that time. It was first mentioned in a document in 1326, when it was acquired by Archbishop Friedrich III of Leibnitz.
Around 1400, Hüttenstein became the seat of its own district court. In the second half of the 16th century, Hüttenstein Castle was built. At that time, the castle must have been left to decay. Today, only minor remains of Hüttenstein Castle are preserved.
