Alt-Geroldseck Castle
Alt-Geroldseck, also known as Rauhkasten, is the ruin of a spur castle located 1700 meters north of the Hohengeroldseck ruin on a 604 m above sea level high spur summit near Schönberg, a district of the municipality of Seelbach, in the Ortenaukreis in Baden-Württemberg.
The castle was built in the 12th century by the Lords of Geroldseck and first mentioned in a document in 1139. In 1277, the castle was abandoned in favor of Hohengeroldseck. Of the small castle complex, only 400 square meters in size, only a few wall remnants of the shield wall and the palas, as well as the neck ditch, remain.
