Arnegg Castle

The Arnegg ruin, also called Arneneck, is the ruin of a spur castle located above Arnegg, a district of the municipality of Blaustein, in the Alb-Donau district in Baden-Württemberg, on a wooded 559.1 m above sea level spur summit.

The hilltop castle, presumably built by the local nobility, the Lords of Arnegg, in the 13th century, is first indirectly mentioned in 1265 with the monk Hugo von Arnegg. In 1378, the castle was destroyed by Ulm in the War of the Cities, rebuilt in the 15th century, and largely demolished from 1808 onwards. The Counts of Dillingen and Württemberg are mentioned as further owners.

Of the former castle complex, remnants of a large curtain wall are still present, and a visible rock remnant is presumed to be the location of the core castle. Newly erected buildings on the 120 by 70 meter castle area are privately owned and inhabited.
