Burgsahr Castle
Burgsahr Castle House is a former castle house in Burgsahr, a district of the municipality of Kirchsahr in the Ahrweiler district (Rhineland-Palatinate). The building is a protected cultural monument and is now used as a hotel.
Burgsahr and Freisheim, now a district of Berg, were a sub-lordship of the Archdiocese of Cologne, and originally belonged to the Altenahr castle fief of Uprath. The Lords of Gymnich were first enfeoffed in 1364. In 1458, the sub-lordship passed to the Blankart zu Ahrweiler and, after their extinction in 1712, to their relatives by marriage. Since the beginning of the 19th century, the properties came into the hands of various bourgeois families through purchase.
Architecture+
The two-story quarry stone building with five axes and a high hip roof dates essentially from the 17th and 18th centuries. In the middle of the building, facing the courtyard, there is a welsche Haube (a type of dome), which was intended as a hoisting device. A baking oven has been added to the east side. The outbuildings next to the castle house were partly built in quarry stone and partly in clay half-timbering.
