Zweiffel Castle

Zweiffel Castle is a former noble residence in the Strunde Valley, about three kilometers northeast of the city center of Bergisch Gladbach in the district of Herrenstrunden.

Documented in 1251 and owned by the "von Strune" or "von Strunde" family, Zweiffel Castle, also known as Zweiffelstrunden Castle, is a former moated castle.

The still existing main house was built in 1663.

In the 15th and 16th centuries, the complex was owned by the noble family of von Zweiffel. Four generations of the "Zweiffel zu Strunden" are known as owners:

• Gerhard von Zweiffel (around 1460–1530?), married to a Gertrud; children:
  • Friedrich, Heinrich, Wetzel, Johann, Hermann, Aleid and Anna. The brothers Heinrich, Wetzel and Johann paid homage in Düsseldorf in 1539, Heinrich was still the owner of Zweiffel Castle in 1551.
    • A son of one of these brothers was probably Hermann von Zweiffel, who is known with his wife Catharina as the donor of a chapel window.
      • Their daughter Maria von Zweiffel and her husband Konrad von Herzbeck sold the castle in 1585.

The property is now privately owned.
