Staufenberg Castle
Staufenberg Castle, also known as Staufenburg or Stauffenberg and today as the Schloss Staufenberg Winery, is a hilltop castle on a 383-meter-high rocky outcrop north above the Staufenberg district of the municipality of Durbach in the Ortenaukreis in Baden-Württemberg.
Even if no building fabric from the 11th and 12th centuries has been preserved in the visible structure, the lords or counts of Staufenberg ("Stouffenberg") mentioned between 1188 and 1132 in the donation book of the Hirsau Priory of Reichenbach and in the founding notes of St. Georgen Monastery, or the ministerials of the Dukes of Zähringen mentioned since 1148, could be the builders of the castle. After 1218, the castle came into the possession of various noble families and was damaged in the Thirty Years' War and finally plundered in 1689 by French "marauders". For a time, Staufenberg Castle served as a joint inheritance castle for eight families.
In 1693, Margrave Ludwig Wilhelm of Baden-Baden bought the castle. From 1832, the castle was expanded into a palace by the Margraves of Baden in the Romantic style and is still privately owned by the House of Baden today as the "Margravial Baden Winery".

The castle complex rises 10 meters above the neck ditch, which today serves as a parking lot. The buildings in the rear, oldest part of the complex with the palas, contain elements of the keep. The castle tavern leads to the western platform, which today serves as a terrace.
