Stadeck Castle
Stadeck Castle is a moated castle in the municipality of Stadecken-Elsheim in the district of Mainz-Bingen in Rhineland-Palatinate.
The former Stadeck Castle, located on a promontory of the Selz river, is now almost completely integrated into the town center of Stadecken-Elsheim. It lies at an elevation of about 147 meters above sea level.
In 1276, the castle was built by Count Eberhard I of Katzenelnbogen. In 1291, the castle was mentioned in a document. In 1349, Counts Johann II and Eberhard IV of Katzenelnbogen concluded a contract with Count Walram of Sponheim regarding the financing of the buildings at Stadecken Castle, which they jointly owned, and made it an administrative center.
The village and the castle came into the possession of the Margraves of Baden in 1469 and later passed to the Counts Palatine of Zweibrücken. In 1632, the castle was destroyed and later rebuilt.

Apart from the preserved residential building and the castle barn, the castle complex still shows remains of the curtain wall and the corner tower. The castle's residential building is privately owned and inhabited. The historic castle garden can be visited.
