Schlebuschhof Castle (Stotzheim)

The Schlebuschhof is a listed moated castle in the Rhein-Erft district. It stands on a circular plot in the Stotzheim district of the North Rhine-Westphalian municipality of Hürth and is fed by the Stotzheimer Bach. It is a square castle complex with a moat, on the south side of which the manor house is located. The side wings of the castle house stables. The complex is privately owned and cannot be visited.

In the Middle Ages, a noble family called themselves "von Stotzheim". In a document from 1223, in which the occupation of the parish positions in Efferen and Korschenbroich was determined by the abbess of the St. Maria im Capitol monastery, Sophia von Stotzheim, owner of the "Castle in Stotzheim", is named as a noble member of the convent. In another document, dating from 1280, the knights Rigolfus and Lambertus de Stotzheim were named as witnesses.

In 1339, Johann von Stotzheim was enfeoffed with Stotzheim by the abbess of the St. Maria im Capitol monastery, and in 1347 Franco von Stotzheim.

In 1412, the Burgrave of Odenkirchen owned the "Burghof". However, he renounced it in favor of Dietrich von Uproede, and the estate came to Johann Gemenich (Gymnich). In 1437, Junker Heinrich von Plettenberg took over the estate. From then on, the castle was called "Plettenbergshof". In 1608, through Anna von Plettenberg, it came into the possession of the Electoral Palatine steward Franz von Hammerstein. The "Hammersteinshof" passed to the von Schlebusch family at the beginning of the 17th century. Since this time, it has been called "Schlebuschhof".
