To be privately owned
Ramsberg Castle

Ramsberg Castle is located in the area of the former municipality of Reichenbach unter Rechberg, which has belonged to Donzdorf in the Göppingen district of Baden-Württemberg since 1974. The hilltop castle, including its estate, lies on a ridge, one of the two southern foothills of the Rehgebirge mountains. Staufeneck Castle is located on the other (western) spur.
Ramsberg was built around 1200. In 1225, it was presumably owned by the knight Ulrich von Plochingen, a relative of Ulrich II and Konrad, known as the Monk of Rechberg. The complex was first mentioned in a document on September 22, 1270, when the then owner Konrad, a son of Ulrich von Plochingen, gifted a serf maid to St. Blasien Monastery and the corresponding deed of gift was signed at the castle.
In 1327, the castle was owned by the Lords of Rechberg. Between 1529 and 1809 alone, Ramsberg Castle and its lands changed hands five times. In 1972, it was sold to a private individual.
Description+
The common room of the castle garrison, with its ribbed vault, dates back to the 13th century. It is a three-aisled hall, also called a Dürnitz, with nine bays and four octagonal pillars. North of the Alps, it has no comparable counterpart; only the Crusader castle of Acre possesses a similar hall. The first renovation of the castle took place in 1450. The castle chapel, built in 1560 and still existing, is of late Gothic origin and was restored after a fire in the 1960s. It was initially dedicated to Saint Margaret before being dedicated to Saint Martin. Between 1560 and 1580, the castle complex was rebuilt a second time. In 1809, with increasing decay, it again belonged to the municipality, which had the keep demolished in 1830 due to the risk of collapse.
