Molbach Castle was a motte-and-bailey castle. It was located at today's village entrance. Not much remains today of the former politically significant official residence of the Forest Count.
The "Molbach Castle" - named after the flowing Mill Stream (today Rinnebach) - was built by Count Albert von Nörvenich, who called himself Albert von Molbach in all documents from 1152 onwards. Between 1400 and 1800, the castle was owned by the Knights of Vlatten from the House of Merode. In 1637, the old Count's Castle in Molbach was rebuilt. Further owners were the Lords of Quandt and von Spies.
