Lülsdorf Castle

Lülsdorf Castle is a castle in the Niederkassel district of Lülsdorf in North Rhine-Westphalia. It is a landmark and part of the Niederkassel town coat of arms.

It was built in the 12th and 13th centuries and was the seat of the Lords of Lülsdorf. In 1380, the bailiwick of Lülsdorf became part of the Duchy of Berg and around 1530 became the seat of the Löwenberg office.

After several changes of ownership, the new Lülsdorf office was created in 1446, comprising the parishes of Lülsdorf, Volberg, Mondorf and Bergheim. Rheidt and Niederkassel were grouped together with Sieglar (Troisdorf), among others, to form the Löwenburg office. The bailiwick of Lülsdorf, which was later renamed the Lülsdorf office in the Duchy of Berg by Wilhelm IV of Berg, was the administrative seat, and the seat was located at Lülsdorf Castle.

In 1642, the castle was transferred as a fief to Field Marshal Peter Melander von Holzappel. After multiple destructions, it was a ruin until 1949 and was then rebuilt. In 2005, the castle served, among other things, as a residential building. In 2006, it was sold to the "Castle King" Herbert Hillebrand.
