Lüdinghausen Castle

Lüdinghausen Castle is a moated castle in Lüdinghausen in the Coesfeld district. Together with Vischering Castle and Wolfsberg Castle, it is one of three castle complexes in the Lüdinghausen urban area.

The castle was built in the 12th century as the ancestral seat of the Lords of Lüdinghausen and was converted into a typical Renaissance castle in the 16th century under Gottfried von Raesfeld. Today, the castle is used, among other things, by the VHS, for exhibitions and council meetings. The large hall, richly decorated with coats of arms, offers space for concerts. The tower and the west wing date from the late 19th century.

Some of the interesting architectural details also date from the 16th century. For example, the facade features a stone-carved list of food prices from the years 1573/74, various coats of arms, and an inscription commemorating the city fire in 1569. The upper rooms of the castle combine building tradition with modern elements and are partly equipped as conference rooms. The castle is now owned by the city of Lüdinghausen.
