Loket Castle

The origins of Loket Castle date back to the 12th century, with the oldest parts of the building dating from the 13th century. Archaeological finds suggest settlement as early as the second half of the 12th century. In 1234, the castle was first documented and served as an important administrative seat. After 1300, the complex underwent extensive expansions that continued until the 1520s, combining Romanesque and Gothic stylistic elements. The castle was of strategic importance for Bohemian rule and served as a meeting place for kings such as Wenceslas I and Conrad IV. Emperor Charles IV, who was held here as a child, redeemed the castle from pledge and elevated the locality to a town. Over the centuries, the castle changed hands several times, including the Kolowrat and Schlick families, and was severely damaged during the Thirty Years' War. After a period of decay and use as a warehouse and state prison, restoration of the complex began in the 19th century.

Loket Castle is situated in the town of Loket in the Karlovarský kraj district, in the Severozápad region of the Czech Republic. It stands at an elevation of approximately 423 m above sea level.

Today, Loket Castle is open to visitors and houses a museum. Here, interested parties can admire valuable 19th-century porcelain. Additionally, rooms are available for public events.
