Kriegshoven Castle (Heinerzheim)
Kriegshoven Castle is a moated castle, reachable via an old chestnut avenue, about one kilometer northwest of the village of Heimerzheim in the Rhein-Sieg-Kreis in North Rhine-Westphalia.
The exact founding date is not known, but the Lords of Kriegshoven were first mentioned in writing as early as the middle of the 13th century. In 1247, the sacristan of St. Kunibert transferred a pond to the owner Heinrich von Creshovin.
Subsequently, the castle often changed owners. In 1868, Senior Government Councillor Emil von Wülfing acquired the moated castle and expanded the manor house into a three-winged complex. After his death, the castle passed into the possession of his son of the same name. The successor to the younger Emil von Wülfing was his son-in-law Friedrich von Scherenberg, who was married to Maria von Wülfing. Kriegshoven Castle remains in the possession of the von Scherenberg family to this day.
