Kötzting Castle

In the late 11th century, the Lords of Chostingen, as ministeriales of the Cham margraves, built a tower. The margraviate was formed in 1204 from the territory of the Wittelsbachs and divided into regional courts. Kötzting was granted market rights by the Bavarian dukes after 1255. In 1361, the duke moved an administrative office (Pflegeamt) to Kötzting. Over time, the tower developed into a castle complex with an outer ring wall, moat, and a double ring of fortifications. The castle was often extended and rebuilt (1459, 1551, 1581) or repaired (1638-1698).

In 1810, the diocesan clergy were assigned accommodation in the former administrative castle (Pflegburg). The remaining building complex was purchased by the parish in 1959 and converted into a parish center in 1993/94.
