Klüsserath Castle

Klüsserath Castle, also known as Clüsserath, is a moated castle on the Moselle river at approximately 120 m above sea level, located within the municipality of Klüsserath in the Trier-Saarburg district in Rhineland-Palatinate.

In Klüsserath, the Franks owned a royal crown estate, from which Klüsserath moated castle developed in the 12th and 13th centuries as the seat of the Barons of Kesselstatt.

The castle complex features a three-story late Gothic rectangular building made of unplastered quarry stone with a cross-vaulted cellar from the 7th century. The castle is privately owned and houses a winery with a traditional wine tavern in its cellar, where wine tastings can be organized upon request. Even Emperor Maximilian stopped at the castle in 1512 on his way to the Imperial Diet in Trier. A three-arched moat bridge leads into the castle.
