Kleeburg Castle

Kleeburg is a moated castle with a small manor house including a bridge and a three-winged outer bailey near the Euskirchen district of Weidesheim. It once guarded the nearby Heerstraße. Today, it is the main office of a well-known outerwear company.
The original complex was probably built in the 14th century and has been documented since 1393, when in the same year the spouses Johann and Eva von Bendeman and their sister-in-law von Cleberg were mentioned as owners of the castle. In the mid-15th century, the castle passed into the possession of the von Dadenberg family. In 1591 and 1594, the west and east towers were added, respectively. In 1671, the castle was divided among the Gymnich von Vlatten, the Gymnich von Gymnich, and the Barons von Rolligen.
The ownership of the castle remained divided until Johanna Maria von Gymnich finally acquired all three parts. When she died in 1825 as the last of her family, she bequeathed the castle to the neighboring Baron Ludwig Joseph Spies von Büllesheim.
After a fire, the castle was rebuilt in 1894. Parts of the south wing and the entire west wing were demolished. A large barn was built in imitation of the defensive wall in the south, and some half-timbered buildings were erected in the east, which today serve as living and office spaces.
From 1929 to 1997, a family Conen can be proven as owners. In 1938, the roof truss of the manor house burned down. In 1986, Kleeburg, already heavily dilapidated, was placed under monument protection. In 1997, Michael Freiherr von Korff acquired it. From 1997 to 2002, the complex was renovated in cooperation with the Rhenish Office for Monument Preservation and became the headquarters of the company "Daniels & Korff".
