Holzheim Castle

Holzheim Castle is a lowland castle west of Heistern in the municipality of Langerwehe in the North Rhine-Westphalian district of Düren. It is located between Heistern and the Bovenberg Forest near Eschweiler-Nothberg and is now used for agriculture and as an equestrian center.

East of the castle runs the Holzheimer Graben, which flows into the Inde near Hücheln.

The castle dates back to 1333, and its owners were subject to the Duchy of Jülich. In the 15th to 17th centuries, the manor house and gate tower, which are still preserved today, were built. In 1818, when the area was in the Prussian district of Düren, the castle and its lands were sold to private individuals. In 1893, Richard Schleicher, who also bought the nearby Schönthal estate, purchased it. Later, the property changed hands several more times.
