Haslach Castle
Haslach Castle is located in the municipality of Haslach an der Mühl in the Rohrbach district of Upper Austria.
The market town of Haslach and its fortifications were a bone of contention between the then very powerful Rosenbergs and the Bishops of Passau or the sovereign.
The castle was built by Peter von Rosenberg. In a repurchase deed dated September 11, 1341, he committed himself against Bishop Albert of Passau, "that he should demolish the fortress he built in the market". Whether this happened is uncertain, but the tower certainly remained standing. On July 13, 1487, Emperor Frederick III ordered Wok von Rosenberg to stop construction work on the fortifications of the market town of Haslach and the castle, as he had no permission to do so and there was no necessity. In 1599, Peter Wok von Rosenberg had to sell Haslach to Bishop Leopold of Passau.

Of the former castle, the mighty tower still stands, which today serves as the church tower of the Catholic parish church of St. Nicholas; it is 63 m high. The tower was redesigned around 1906/07; until 1906 it had an enclosed battlement, today an open gallery.
The tower has six floors, the lower four are equipped with barrel vaults. The tower had a high entrance with a drawbridge, from there a staircase continues within the thickness of the wall; the staircase is lit by tubular hatches. Above the sixth floor is a cantilevered stone battlement.
