Haselstein Castle (Zillis-Reischen)

Chronologie

• 1273 Heinrich von Reischen, a bishop's vassal, builds Haselstein as a replacement for the cramped tower across the Vidos Gorge. The old tower is abandoned. The more spacious new Haselstein Castle is built in a few months under time pressure, lacking foundations. This will take its toll later.
• approx. 1340 Painting of a hall in the South Palace by the "Waltensburg Master".
• approx. 1350 Abandonment of the castle after the collapse of the foundationless valley front of the South Palace. Beginning of decay. The Lords of Reischen build their third castle in the village of Reischen as a replacement.
• 1891 J. R. Rahn draws the sparse remains of the ruin.
• 1968 Purchase of the plot of 1725 square meters by the archaeology student FWN, beginning of scientific excavation.
• 1972 Completion of the excavation. Beginning of the reconstruction of the core castle with the stone material of the ruin. Discovery and reopening of the castle's medieval tuff quarry.
• 1973 Power supply and telephone connection. First roof.
• 1975 Approval of a biological sewage treatment plant. Second roof.
• 1992 Approval of the outbuildings of the outer bailey by the canton.
• 1993 Approval and construction of the private access road.
• 2001 Founding of the non-profit cultural foundation PRO CASTELLIS as a successor organization for the heirless FWN. After the death of the builder, the foundation will continue the open cultural operations and manage the Graubünden Castle Archive in the specially built cultural heritage protection room.
• 2004 The land consolidation is completed: The castle plot now comprises 92,094 square meters. The student from 1968 is still learning. He is now 61 years old and has turned white.
