Gülichsburg Castle
The Gülichsburg is a former moated castle on the Mühlengraben just before the Rotbach in the Zülpich district of Schwerfen (An der Gülichsburg 5) in the Euskirchen district in North Rhine-Westphalia.
The small castle was first mentioned in 1365 as a Jülich fief in the possession of Wilhelm von Berg. Historians assume that the castle was formerly the ancestral seat of the von Schwerfen family, who played a decisive role in the history of Schwerfen.
In 1638, Herr von Kaldenbach sold the castle to Engelbert von Gülich zu Berg, after which it was called "Gülichsburg". As the castle was never a knight's seat eligible for the Landtag, it was never expanded.
In the 19th century, the castle changed its bourgeois owners several times and is still run as an agricultural enterprise today.

The four-winged castle complex is grouped around the inner courtyard with the manor house and farm buildings. The actual castle house is a late Gothic building and the western half has been preserved from its construction period around 1500. The farm buildings were renovated in 1830 on older foundations.
