Friedland Castle

The castle originated in the 13th century as a moated castle with an approximately square floor plan and a double ring wall. First mentioned in documents in 1336, it came into the pledge possession of the Order of St. John in 1518, along with the city of Friedland and the Lordship of Friedland, and was finally sold to the Johanniters in 1533. In 1623, after a fire, it was rebuilt as a palace and later renovated several times [13]. The castle belongs to the series of Strele castles and has been the annual venue for the small indie rock festival "Jenseits von Millionen" since 2008 [14]. It also hosts the musical band competition "Rock Oder Spree" of the district Oder-Spree and the city of Frankfurt (Oder).
