Działdowo Castle
Działdowo Castle, formerly known as the Teutonic Order Castle Soldau, was a significant border fortification of the Teutonic Order. It is characterized by its square ground plan and its strategic location on the former border with Poland.
History+
The Teutonic Order constructed Soldau Castle on a square footprint, each side measuring approximately 46 meters. Within its walls, not only military facilities but also economic buildings such as a mill and a brewery were housed. During the Battle of Tannenberg, the castle sustained damage. A comprehensive renovation in the Renaissance style took place in 1676. Later, in both World Wars, the complex was again affected by Russian and Soviet troops, respectively.

Działdowo Castle is located in the town of Działdowo in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship in northern Poland. It stands at an elevation of approximately 169 meters above sea level.

Today, the castle is privately owned. The southwest wing of the complex largely retains its original condition, bearing witness to its former architecture. Visitors can thus gain an impression of the historic building fabric.
