Cleeberg Castle

Cleeberg Castle is a castle located in the village at approximately 290 m above sea level in the center of the Cleeberg district (eastern Hintertaunus), Obere Pforte 1, in the municipality of Langgöns in the Gießen district.

The exact construction date of the castle is unknown. It was first mentioned in the 12th century, in the year 1129, and was later owned by the Counts of Cleeberg. The keep was first documented in 1263, and the castle building was constructed around 1700. In 1845, the municipality of Cleeberg acquired the property from the noble family House of Hesse-Darmstadt and established a forestry office and a school. Cleeberg Castle was used as a hotel until 1977. Since 1982, the castle has been privately owned by a community of owners.

The triangular castle complex features a keep, formerly 30 meters high and now still 20.60 meters high with one rounded side, a palas with outbuildings, an outer bailey, and a curtain wall.
