Bouzov Castle

The first documented mention of Bouzov Castle dates back to 1317, when a Buzo of Buzov was named as its owner. Over the centuries, the castle changed hands multiple times and belonged to important noble families, including Margrave Jobst of Moravia and the Lords of Kunštát and Poděbrady. It is believed that the Bohemian King George of Poděbrady was born here. From around 1546, the Podstatzky of Prusinowitz family owned the castle, selling it again in 1649. In the 16th century, the complex underwent a Renaissance-style renovation. After the devastation of the Thirty Years' War, the damage remained unrepaired for a long time. In 1696, the Teutonic Order acquired the castle and its dominion. Between 1896 and 1901, under the direction of architect Georg von Hauberrisser, the Order extensively redesigned the castle in a historicizing style to serve as a summer residence for Grand Master Archduke Eugen of Austria. Its furnishings reflect the Order's history. In 1939, the Teutonic Order was dispossessed by the National Socialists, and the castle was transferred to a Berlin society. After World War II, it was confiscated again and now belongs to the National Heritage Institute.

Bouzov Castle is located in the municipality of Bouzov in the Olomouc Region (Olomoucký kraj) in the Central Moravia (Střední Morava) region of the Czech Republic. It stands at an elevation of approximately 423 meters above sea level.

Today, Bouzov Castle is open to visitors and can be explored. It presents itself as a well-preserved historical monument.
